Tamarisk Ranchos I and II were originally planned as a 40-lot subdivision in 1956, part of an area approved for new residential development by the county planning commission. By 1957, this was reduced to 32 lots. Lou Halber was the founder and developer of Tamarisk Country Club and also owned the entire subdivision; he had the two properties master planned, each with 16 homes gathered around a community pool and gardens. He developed Tamarisk Ranchos using William Krisel's designs for the homes in the first community. After Halper completed the first Tamarisk Ranchos in 1958, he sold the adjoining land to the High Dale Land Company.
-Tamarisk Ranchos II was completed in 1961. The developers kept to the same community plan of 16 different-styled homes around a central pool and gardens, but selected low-pitched hipped roofs for most of the one-story homes. Unlike Tamarisk Ranchos I, the front doors and main elevations faced the street, with the rear of the homes facing inward to the pool and grounds.
